Bio
Ryan Murphy is in his ninth year in the Florida League, leading the league's media efforts as Director of Communications.
Away from the Florida League, Murphy is the Assistant Commissioner for the River States Conference, an NAIA conference based in Ohio. As Assistant Commissioner, Murphy handles all media efforts for the league, and serves as one of the leagues's officers.
Prior to the River States Conference, Murphy worked in the sports information department at Ave Maria University in Southwest Florida, serving from 2015 to 2024. During his tenure, the Ave Maria sports information department has become a nationally recognized department during Murphy's tenure. The department has earned seven top ten finishes in the NAIA Publications Contest in a two-year span, gaining five awards in 2022 and two more in 2023.
Prior to working at Ave Maria, Murphy was in the radio business, serving as Sports Director for KCJJ Radio in Iowa City, Iowa. His duties included play-by-play broadcasts for high school sports, as well as coverage of the University of Iowa's athletic programs.
Murphy's experience also includes nearly a decade with various baseball organizations around the nation, mostly as a play-by-play broadcaster and communications director. The franchises that have employed Murphy include the Sanford River Rats (Florida Collegiate Summer League), the Waterloo Bucks (Northwoods League), the Albany Dutchmen (Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League), the Joplin Blasters (American Association of Professional Baseball), the North Adams SteepleCats (New England Collegiate Baseball League), and the DeLand Suns (Florida Collegiate Summer League), serving as broadcaster for the team's championship.
He is also a staple of the Southwest Florida high school sports scene, serving as the public address announcer for the City of Palms Classic, one of the top high school basketball tournaments in the nation. He also serves as the play-by-play announcer for the FHSAA State Finals in baseball, held annually in Fort Myers. His volunteer work at Bishop Verot High School earned him the Bishop Augustin Award for Service to the School in 2023.
Murphy graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.
